The Remote Raid Invite PAYWALL In Pokemon GO! No Free 2 Play Model? Welcomed Cash Grab? Pokémon GO High Level F2P Gameplay! ★The remote raid invite feature is probably the biggest release in Pokemon GO since GO Battle League. The ability to raid with your friends from all over the world is simply amazing and long overdue. (Now I wish we could just get long distance trading lol)
While this feature is very welcomed, there is a significant paywall behind it.
Back in 2017 when raids first came out, there were 2 raid passes introduced: Free & Premium. You were awarded 1 free pass each day and could always buy premium passes for 100 coins in the shop. Additionally, event boxes were introduced that would offer a larger amount of premium passes combined with other items for 1480 coins. These are now known as Ultra Boxes.
The old model allowed for you to raid everyday while never being forced to pay for premium passes.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many of us are being asked to stay at home if possible, to prevent the spread. Niantic has fully supported this idea, and has implemented quite a bit of changes to the game in order to create a flexible playing environment for players.
Not giving players the ability to raid at least once from home with a daily remote raid pass, while being a free 2 play game, just doesn’t make sense.
Additionally, for people who purchased lots of premium raid passes, they are no longer functionable in the current raid environment, but can’t be converted into remote raid passes.
My proposed solution for both the free and premium passes is to allow us to convert them into remote raid passes. This would be the easiest solution imo, or to allow us to just use our daily free pass for remote raids.
I’m not particularly hopeful that they will make these changes, because many players do not have a problem spending money on remote raid passes. This is arguably going to be Niantic’s best quarter for revenue, I do not doubt it in the slightest.
