First look at Mega Mewtwo Y and Mega Mewtwo X today in Pokemon GO #pokemon #pokemongo #pogo #mewtwo

Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y have officially made their first appearance at Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Tokyo, and the brand new Supermegaincursions mechanic might be one of the craziest raid features Niantic has ever added to Pokémon GO.

In this video, I’m showing our first look at the Mega Mewtwo battles live from GO Fest Tokyo, including the new motion-based gameplay mechanics where players physically have to move their phones during the raid to charge attacks and break shields. When the shield phase starts, you literally lift your phone into the air, hold it up to charge the attack, then bring it back down to throw. Even the catch encounter continues the mechanic after the raid is over.

Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y appeared exclusively during the final 30 minutes of each GO Fest Tokyo park session, and each Supermegaincursion only lasted 25 minutes. These raids could not be joined remotely, meaning every trainer had to physically be at the event in Japan to participate.

Some of the biggest details revealed from GO Fest Tokyo:

* Mega Mewtwo X and Y only reward 300 Mega Energy each
* Caught Mewtwo come with the exclusive legacy moves Counter and Psychic
* Trainers can receive special Tokyo location backgrounds
* Some Mewtwo were obtained with Mega Level 1 already unlocked
* Lucky trainers even received Mega Level 2 or Mega Level 3 unlocked instantly

This is our first ever look at how Mega Mewtwo could work during Pokémon GO Fest Global, and if these mechanics stay the same worldwide, trainers everywhere are about to look absolutely ridiculous waving their phones around in public.

What do you think about the new Supermegaincursion mechanics? Are they an awesome immersive feature, or are we all going to look completely insane doing this in real life?
